Ce nom d\u00e9crit sa structure interne : une couche de cristaux liquides prise en sandwich entre deux substrats en verre, avec un r\u00e9seau de transistors \u00e0 couche mince sur le verre inf\u00e9rieur qui contr\u00f4le chaque pixel individuellement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voyez les choses ainsi : chaque pixel est dot\u00e9 de son propre petit interrupteur (le transistor). Lorsque cet interrupteur est activ\u00e9, il g\u00e9n\u00e8re un champ \u00e9lectrique qui fait pivoter les mol\u00e9cules de cristal liquide. Ce pivotement modifie la fa\u00e7on dont la lumi\u00e8re traverse l'\u00e9cran et, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un filtre de couleur plac\u00e9 par-dessus, on obtient une image en couleur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce qu\u2019il faut surtout retenir, c\u2019est qu\u2019un \u00e9cran LCD ne produit pas sa propre lumi\u00e8re. Il a besoin d\u2019un r\u00e9tro\u00e9clairage \u2014 g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement des LED \u2014 qui l\u2019\u00e9claire par l\u2019arri\u00e8re. C\u2019est \u00e0 la fois son plus gros inconv\u00e9nient (une consommation \u00e9lectrique constante) et son plus grand avantage (on peut le rendre incroyablement lumineux).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La technologie TFT est la version \u00e0 matrice active de l'\u00e9cran LCD, ce qui signifie que chaque pixel est contr\u00f4l\u00e9 ind\u00e9pendamment.
