que parecen papel y comparten algunas de sus propiedades \u00f3pticas\u2014 son dispositivos electr\u00f3nicos. Y, al igual que todos los dispositivos electr\u00f3nicos, reaccionan a la temperatura. En el interior de cada p\u00edxel hay unas min\u00fasculas microc\u00e1psulas llenas de un l\u00edquido transparente que contiene part\u00edculas blancas con carga positiva y part\u00edculas negras con carga negativa. Al aplicar tensi\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica, las part\u00edculas se desplazan: las blancas hacia arriba y las negras hacia abajo, o al rev\u00e9s. Ese movimiento es el que crea la imagen que ves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfCu\u00e1l es el problema? Esas part\u00edculas se mueven a trav\u00e9s de un l\u00edquido. Y el l\u00edquido cambia de comportamiento cuando var\u00eda la temperatura. Ah\u00ed es donde la cosa se pone interesante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Temperature_Affects_E-Paper_Display_Performance\"><\/span>C\u00f3mo afecta la temperatura al rendimiento de las pantallas de papel electr\u00f3nico<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cold_Temperatures_When_Particles_Slow_Down\"><\/span>Temperaturas bajas: cuando las part\u00edculas reducen su velocidad<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Las bajas temperaturas suponen el mayor reto para el papel electr\u00f3nico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A medida que baja la temperatura, el l\u00edquido del interior de las microc\u00e1psulas se vuelve m\u00e1s viscoso. Piensa, por ejemplo, en la diferencia entre la miel reci\u00e9n sacada de la nevera y la miel calentada. Las part\u00edculas tienen que abrirse paso a trav\u00e9s de un l\u00edquido m\u00e1s espeso, lo que hace que se muevan m\u00e1s lentamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa eso en la pr\u00e1ctica?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tiempo de actualizaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s lento.<\/strong> A temperatura ambiente, una pantalla de papel electr\u00f3nico t\u00edpica puede actualizarse en unos pocos cientos de milisegundos. A 0 \u00b0C o menos, esa misma actualizaci\u00f3n puede tardar varios segundos. Para aplicaciones que se actualizan con frecuencia \u2014como una etiqueta de preparaci\u00f3n de pedidos en un almac\u00e9n que cambia con cada pedido\u2014, ese retraso se convierte en un verdadero problema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Contraste reducido.<\/strong> Cuando las part\u00edculas no recorren toda la distancia prevista, se ve gris en lugar de negro, y blanco roto en lugar de blanco. La pantalla parece descolorida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M\u00e1s efecto fantasma en la imagen.<\/strong> Las part\u00edculas que no se reinician por completo dejan rastros de la imagen anterior. Probablemente hayas visto esto en un lector electr\u00f3nico que ha pasado toda la noche en un coche fr\u00edo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Se requiere una tensi\u00f3n m\u00e1s alta.<\/strong> Para compensar el aumento de la viscosidad, la pantalla necesita una tensi\u00f3n de alimentaci\u00f3n mayor. Esto supone una carga adicional para los circuitos del controlador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hemos observado que estos efectos se hacen perceptibles por debajo de los 0 \u00b0C y son significativos entre los -10 \u00b0C y los -20 \u00b0C, dependiendo del tipo concreto de pel\u00edcula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hot_Temperatures_A_Different_Set_of_Problems\"><\/span>Temperaturas elevadas: una serie de problemas distintos<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>El calor plantea sus propios retos, que a menudo van en contra de lo que cabr\u00eda esperar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A altas temperaturas, el fluido se vuelve menos viscoso, por lo que las part\u00edculas se mueven m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido. Parece algo positivo: una actualizaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida, \u00bfno? Pero tiene sus inconvenientes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deterioro del contraste.<\/strong> El fluido se expande al calentarse, lo que modifica la distancia entre las part\u00edculas. El rendimiento \u00f3ptico se ve alterado y se pierde la n\u00edtida distinci\u00f3n entre el blanco y el negro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Menor retenci\u00f3n de la imagen.<\/strong> La biestabilidad del papel electr\u00f3nico \u2014la capacidad de mantener una imagen sin necesidad de alimentaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica\u2014 se basa en que las part\u00edculas permanezcan fijas una vez que se han desplazado. A temperaturas elevadas, las part\u00edculas se desplazan con mayor facilidad. La imagen empieza a desvanecerse o a degradarse antes de lo que deber\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tensi\u00f3n en el material.<\/strong> Los adhesivos, los selladores y la propia l\u00e1mina envejecen m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidamente a temperaturas elevadas prolongadas. Esto afecta a la fiabilidad a largo plazo del m\u00f3dulo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normalmente observamos estos problemas a temperaturas superiores a 50 \u00b0C, y se acent\u00faan a partir de los 60 \u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Temperature_Swings_The_Hidden_Variable\"><\/span>Variaciones de temperatura: la variable oculta<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No se trata solo de la temperatura absoluta. Los cambios r\u00e1pidos tambi\u00e9n son importantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imaginemos un dispositivo que ha pasado toda la noche en un cami\u00f3n de reparto refrigerado y que se lleva a un almac\u00e9n con temperatura ambiente. La temperatura de la pantalla va por detr\u00e1s de la del aire ambiente, y los par\u00e1metros de funcionamiento que eran adecuados a una temperatura determinada ya no se ajustan al estado real de la pel\u00edcula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luego est\u00e1 el aspecto mec\u00e1nico. La placa trasera de cristal, las capas adhesivas y la l\u00e1mina de pl\u00e1stico se expanden y contraen a ritmos diferentes. Tras un n\u00famero suficiente de ciclos, ese movimiento diferencial puede provocar delaminaci\u00f3n o fracturas por tensi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el caso de las aplicaciones al aire libre o de cualquier producto que se traslade de un entorno a otro, esto supone un verdadero problema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_We_Optimize_E-Paper_Modules_for_Temperature\"><\/span>C\u00f3mo optimizamos los m\u00f3dulos de papel electr\u00f3nico en funci\u00f3n de la temperatura<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Wide-Temperature_Design\"><\/span>Dise\u00f1o para un amplio rango de temperaturas<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La primera l\u00ednea de defensa consiste en elegir los materiales adecuados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No todas las l\u00e1minas de papel electr\u00f3nico son iguales. Las l\u00e1minas de amplio rango de temperatura ampl\u00edan ese intervalo, normalmente hasta los -20 \u00b0C en el extremo inferior y los 60 \u00b0C en el extremo superior, y en ocasiones incluso m\u00e1s all\u00e1, dependiendo del producto concreto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pero la pel\u00edcula es solo una parte de la ecuaci\u00f3n. Los adhesivos que unen las capas entre s\u00ed, el sellador que protege los bordes y el cristal o la pel\u00edcula protectora deben ofrecer el mismo rendimiento en ese mismo rango. Un eslab\u00f3n d\u00e9bil en cualquier punto de la estructura compromete todo el m\u00f3dulo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seleccionamos materiales que conservan sus propiedades en todo el rango de funcionamiento y los sometemos a pruebas de ciclos t\u00e9rmicos \u2014no solo a condiciones est\u00e1ticas de calor y fr\u00edo, sino a transiciones repetidas entre extremos\u2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Temperature-Compensated_Waveforms\"><\/span>Formas de onda compensadas en temperatura<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Aqu\u00ed es donde se lleva a cabo la verdadera ingenier\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Una forma de onda es la secuencia de impulsos de tensi\u00f3n que lleva a las part\u00edculas a sus posiciones correctas. Es, en esencia, el \u201cmanual de instrucciones\u201d de cada ciclo de actualizaci\u00f3n. Y debe variar en funci\u00f3n de la temperatura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A bajas temperaturas, la forma de onda requiere pulsos de mayor duraci\u00f3n y, en ocasiones, tensiones m\u00e1s altas para impulsar las part\u00edculas a trav\u00e9s de un fluido m\u00e1s espeso. A altas temperaturas, se necesitan pulsos m\u00e1s cortos para evitar acelerar en exceso las part\u00edculas que ya se mueven demasiado r\u00e1pido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los m\u00f3dulos modernos de papel electr\u00f3nico incorporan un sensor de temperatura integrado que env\u00eda datos en tiempo real al circuito integrado controlador. A continuaci\u00f3n, el controlador selecciona la forma de onda adecuada a partir de una tabla de consulta o ajusta los par\u00e1metros mediante un algoritmo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La calidad de esta compensaci\u00f3n de temperatura es lo que distingue a un buen m\u00f3dulo de uno excelente. Una compensaci\u00f3n deficiente se traduce en una calidad de imagen irregular a lo largo de las estaciones. Una buena compensaci\u00f3n garantiza que la pantalla se vea bien, tanto si est\u00e1 instalada en un almac\u00e9n finland\u00e9s como en una tienda de Singapur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dedicamos una cantidad considerable de tiempo de desarrollo a ajustar estas formas de onda para cada m\u00f3dulo que fabricamos. La compensaci\u00f3n no es una f\u00f3rmula \u00fanica v\u00e1lida para todos los casos, sino que depende de la pel\u00edcula concreta, del dise\u00f1o de la placa base e incluso del uso previsto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hardware_Thermal_Management\"><\/span>Gesti\u00f3n t\u00e9rmica del hardware<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n hay aspectos del dise\u00f1o f\u00edsico que contribuyen a ello.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El dise\u00f1o del circuito impreso flexible (FPC) puede optimizarse para minimizar la transferencia de calor procedente de otros componentes. Si tu producto tiene una bater\u00eda o un procesador cerca, ese calor no deber\u00eda llegar a la pantalla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El dise\u00f1o de la placa base influye en la distribuci\u00f3n del calor por toda la superficie de la pantalla. Una temperatura uniforme garantiza un rendimiento uniforme. Los puntos calientes provocan un comportamiento \u00f3ptico irregular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para aplicaciones en condiciones de fr\u00edo extremo \u2014como la log\u00edstica en el \u00c1rtico o la supervisi\u00f3n de la cadena de fr\u00edo\u2014, algunos m\u00f3dulos pueden incluir un elemento calefactor integrado. No es algo habitual, pero para casos de uso especializados, es una opci\u00f3n que ofrecemos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nada de esto llama la atenci\u00f3n.
